Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Federal Funding Overview

Since March 2020, the federal government has passed three relief packages in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that includes unprecedented support for K–12 schools. Combined, the legislation provides more than $193 billion in aid to state education agencies (SEAs) which must sub-award 87.5 - 90% to school districts.

As a school or district leader, you may have questions about the recent funding from the federal government.

  • What ESSER funds are available to K-12 schools in response to the pandemic?
  • In addition to addressing learning loss, what can ESSER funds be used for?
  • What else might school and district leaders need to know about ESSER or GEER?

Solution Tree has created a helpful, 2-page guide to help answer questions you may have about how to address learning loss, how to address the unique needs among low-income students, or how to provide school leaders with the resources to address the needs of their schools during this unprecedented time.
